The Campbell Apartment
The main room — once the lordly private office of the railroad executive and millionaire John Williams Campbell, completed with Florentine décor, a coffered ceiling and a fireplace are the Campbell apartment main features. You can also find a second, smaller bar area just outside the entrance, bookended by two palm trees, called the Campbell Palm Court. And a former taxi stand just outside was fitted with a third bar, the Campbell Terrace. Announcing the presence of all three, collectively titled the Campbell, will be a large awning on Vanderbilt Avenue. Being a chic cocktail bar nowadays, it is one of the most famous bars in NYC.
The Bar takes its visual cues from great American long bars of decades past, glamorous ballrooms of French hotels particuliers and the royal stables at Versailles with distinctive barrel vaulting and natural-wood walls defining much of the space. The focal point of the space is the three custom-made crystal chandeliers that hang from the lofty arched ceiling.
This lounge from Sean MacPherson and Eric Goode is home to the most raging midweek party in lower Manhattan. Charming old-world adornments, a grand fireplace, and a suspended vintage disco ball are just a few of the unique features found inside of the Jane Hotel’s impressive Ballroom Bar. The Ballroom is nearly as stunning as the crowd it attracts, with an offbeat tableau of stuffed beasts and mismatched couches.
This outdoor terrace bar on the Wythe Hotel’s sixth floor affords sweeping views of the East River and Manhattan, and it’s an ideal vantage point for watching summer sunsets while lingering over a pint of Radeberger or a quaff made from local small-batch spirits. Promoted as a gratuity free establishment, the bar’s menu prices include service fees, eliminating the task of tipping.
Midtown Manhattan’s stylish hotel—filled with red-suede sofas, mosaic floors, and stained-glass ceilings—is a favorite among locals and tourists alike. There are lots of couches and comfortable chairs, and it tends to be dark, loud, and just the right level of crowded. A vintage American flag serves as the focal point in the lobby.
Named in honor of Ludwig Bemelmans, the creator of the classic Madeline children’s books, Bemelmans Bar is a timeless location that continues to attract socialites, politicians and movie stars. This classic Upper East Side establishment in the Carlyle Hotel is an industry stalwart. Ludwig Bemelmans himself painted the iconic murals in the space that depict charming Central Park scenes.
Mother of Pearl is a post-modern Polynesian inspired tiki restaurant and acclaimed cocktail bar. This lively tiki bar brings Hawaiian flair to the Big Apple. Owned and designed by East Village restaurateur Ravi DeRossi, it features a white-and-green tiled bar, vintage-looking tropical upholstery, and banana-leaf wallpaper.
Located in the quaint Brooklyn neighborhood of Carroll Gardens, Clover Club serves craft cocktails and small bites. The space features a tin ceiling, plenty of exposed brick, and a back room with a fireplace.
Apothéke
Inspired by the history and rise of the apothecary in Europe as well as the artistic influence of absinthe dens in 19th century Paris, Apothéke is the first of its kind. The back of the main space is anchored by a 30ft bar made from Carrara marble, and a hand carved back bar, filled with hundreds of antique medicine bottles collected from around the world.
Located in Lower East Side, Bar Goto is a designed by Wilkinson Architects, being simple and refined, with dark floors, walls, and ceilings and warm wood bar lit at night with a golden glow.
